Wicked Temptation drops today — join Cal and Iona on the mission.
Hi Everyone,
Last month, I mentioned I had juniper bushes removed from my yard and replaced with sod. What I did not mention was that they ran out of sod before finishing the backyard section. The owner promised me they would be back the first week in June to finish the job.
Dear reader, you can guess that they did not show up the first week in June. They did not show up the second week in June. Or the third week either, which is when I finally surfaced from working long enough to realize that the patch of dirt was now filled with weeds—and that my backyard is visible from the street. My HOA patrols. Patrols. So this was a big problem.
I contacted the company. “Um, hey? It’s been three weeks past the time you said you’d return to finish the work.”
I was promised they would be out the following week. This would be the fourth week of June.
Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Watching the weeds grow robustly in the dirt I’m paying to water because the sod that was laid down needs to be watered. I had resigned myself to them never returning when a miracle happened.
Friday afternoon. Three p.m. I see a truck from the window of my home office. I swivel my chair and lean forward. Yes, it’s my landscaper! Finally!
They put down the sod, ask me to open the garage door to check the sprinkler, ask me to leave it open because they need to adjust one of the heads. They finish the job and leave without letting me know.
Okay, no big deal. I shut the garage door and go out the back door to admire my new sod. And that’s when I see it.
The shovel.
They left a shovel behind.
So now I have a fully sodded yard, a functioning sprinkler system, and one abandoned shovel leaning against my fence like a stray puppy hoping I’ll take it in. At this point, if it’s still here next week, I’m going to have to name it.
